Composer Ralph Vaughan Williams was born on October 12th of 1872. Known for incorporating folk tunes and music of the Tudor period into his classical compositions, Vaughan Williams wrote music that was uniquely English. His compositions include operas (e.g., Sir John in Love, 1929; Riders to the Sea, 1937; The Pilgrim's Progress, 1951), symphonies (A London Symphony, 1914; A Pastoral Symphony, 1921; Sinphonia Antartica, 1949), and scores for TV, film and radio. Vaughan Williams died in 1958 and was buried in Westminster Abbey.
