When Birds Stopped Chirping And Tigers Slept
Source: www.hindu.com
NEW DELHI, INDIA, July 23, 2009: Changes in behavior in animals and birds were recorded by experts at the Van Vihar National Park in Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh during the total solar eclipse Wednesday morning.
“It is for the first time in this country that we studied animal behavior during a solar eclipse. And much to our amazement, many animals behaved unusually — some got very dull while some were hyper-active as the sky darkened Wednesday morning,” S.S. Rajput, director of the Van Vihar National Park, told IANS.
“Herbivorous animals, who generally graze separately during the day, suddenly came together in a herd and stood stationary during the eclipse. Even the birds that were chirping since dawn suddenly quietened between 6.20 and 6.30 a.m.,” Rajput observed.

LABASA, FIJI, July 23, 2009: More than 4000 people gathered last night to listen to spiritual words delivered by the Sant Sri Rameshbhai Oza, a priest who is well known worldwide.
Sant Oza said he was attracted by the purity of the people and the environment; he said that he could feel that Labasa was closer to God in nature. “People’s emotions are very much pure and they are more dedicated to God,” he said. “I would like to tell everybody in this island to remain with nature and to see God all the time. The best thing is to get away from all the bad habits; stay pure”.
Local priest Kamlesh Maharaj expressed how important the sant’s visit was to the people, who had been listening to him preach on the radio for years. “We learn many basics of philosophy of Hinduism and moral values that we need to practice in our society today. He also helps us to develop our spiritual growth, which is a very important part of life.”

Solar Eclipse Brings Outpouring of Devotion
Source: timesofindia.indiatimes.com
VARANASI, INDIA, July 23, 2009: The famed ghats of Varanasi where full with the devout queuing up for a holy dip in the Ganga during the eclipse period on Wednesday.
Batuk Prasad Shastri, a well-known scholar of Sanskrit and Hinduism, bathed at home before going for a dip in the Ganga during the eclipse. He then returned home to perform a havan and then went out again to give alms to the poor. “An eclipse is a warning of disaster,” he said, explaining why the rituals were necessary.
Chandramauli Upadhyaya, a trustee of Kashi Vishvanath Temple, said Indian astrology actually doesn’t say that eclipse has a direct bad influence on people. Indian astrology treats eclipses as astronomical events. But it does forbid people from undertaking certain tasks like a party or a wedding.
There are, however, other voices in the city trying to propagate a more scientific understanding of the phenomenon. One such person is B. N. Dwivedi, head of the department of applied physics, Institute of Technology, BHU. “Our ancient sages, who laid down a conduct code for people during eclipses, were correct in doing so in the context of those times. Now, science has understood the phenomenon better and there’s no reason why people shouldn’t watch the spectacle with the prescribed precautions,” he says.

TRINCOMALEE
GREAT NATURAL HARBOUR
Yesterday I visited Trincomalee, which is a natural harbor appreciated by several countries. British had a fortress built for the safety of this city on hill alongside the harbor. It is still there to be seen by all. Now the Hindus have built a small temple inside the fort on top of that hill dedicated to Lord Siva. According to legends there had been a temple at this spot long ago. It has gone inside the sea due to natural calamities.
Famous Dr. Arthur C. Clerk, who wrote space novels had two assistants, who used to export colorful fishes from Sri Lanka. They were real divers and found the said temple inside the sea. Entire construction remains there without any damage. Later these videos included in the Sinhala film “Ran Muthu Duwa”made by famous actor “Gamimi Fonseka”. Those divers later became devotees of Kataragama and stayed there forever.
We went to this area in the evening before we returned back to Colombo. Early morning we went to another place called “Kanya (Virgin) Hot water springs”. Here you find Hot water comes up from below the earth. There are seven tubs or wells built and people are allowed to take water by buckets and bathe there. These seven wells contain water of different heat levels. People think these are holy waters and bathe in them.
Actually water in the earth is heated by the hotness in side the earth and comes out as normal like every where in this earth. This prove that this area is more prone to earth tremors and tsunami.

His invention of flexible film and a hand-held camera revolutionized the photography industry, making it something that any hobbyist could enjoy. A year later, Eastman applied for a patent for celluloid film, which became the basis of the moving pictures industry. George Eastman was also a major philanthropist, bequeathing more than $75 million after his death. After a long illness, Eastman took his own life when he was 77, leaving a note that read, "My work is done. Why wait?"

Crawley Hindu Temple
Source: www.wscountytimes.co.uk
CRAWLEY, UK, July 31, 2009: The opening of Crawley’s new mandir and community center in Ifield, planned for this month, has been put back to the end of the year.
So far, delays have cost the funding organization, the Gurjar Hindu Union, US$320,000. Now they may have to pay an additional $830,000, due to the councillors’ decision to require 250 parking spaces on site instead of a planned 99. The GHU is appealing that decision. Project manager Ashwin Soni said, “There isn’t any other place in Crawley which has the level of parking we have to have.” The GHU proposes to use a grassy area at the temple site for overflow parking for big events.
Their most pressing headache is the absence of a team of specialist stonemasons needed to carve the pink marble which will form the building’s exterior. They were due to arrive from India in April, but a change in immigration rules has prevented their arrival until the end of next month.
Mr. Soni said all this “has had a major, major impact on GHU and its funding,” but insisted the union has no problems financing the US$6.6 million temple. “There isn’t a temple anywhere in the UK which has suffered from lack of money. We’re confident that money isn’t going to be a problem.”
Between August 15 and 28, 2,500 people are expected to pack the unfinished site to attend a series of prayer recitals featuring Rameshbhai Oza, a famous religious singer. This event was planned as part of the opening ceremony of the temple.

What experiences do you think are important for children to have?
Today's children have to see them in the museums. They don't have time to visit museums too.
